Flying Fox Takes Flight: A Full Recap from Kentucky Kingdom’s Media Event and Grand Opening

There are some days as a theme park fan that just feel special from the moment you arrive, and Flying Fox opening day at Kentucky Kingdom was one of those days. From the second I walked up to the park, I could already feel the excitement in the air. Seeing other influencers, coaster enthusiasts, and content creators arriving for the media event made it clear that this was a big day not only for Kentucky Kingdom, but for everyone who had been following this project from the beginning.

What made the atmosphere different from a normal visit was the mix of excitement, nerves, and anticipation. You could tell the park team was in those final moments of making sure everything was ready. Some employees seemed a little stressed, others looked confident and excited, but overall it felt like everyone understood just how important this day was. Flying Fox had been pushed to the very end before opening, so there was definitely a feeling of, “This is it.” Once things started moving, though, that nervous energy slowly turned into celebration.

One of the coolest parts of being invited to the media event was getting the chance to experience Flying Fox before the public. Being surrounded by other coaster fans and content creators really added to the energy of the day. Everyone was ready to see what this new coaster had to offer, and once we were inside the park, the experience immediately felt special.

Before the public opening ceremony even began, media guests were invited to ride Flying Fox. Kentucky Kingdom went all out for the preview experience. There was a film crew on site with cameras attached to the train, and microphones were clipped onto riders so our reactions could be captured during the ride. That alone made the morning memorable, but the park also gave us a Flying Fox goodie bag and even sent us home with a flash drive containing our ride video. It was a fun extra touch that made the whole media event feel even more exciting and polished.

Kentucky Kingdom presented the opening ceremony with several speakers, including park representatives and Herschend CEO Andrew Wexler and the Parks General Manager Sarah Worrell, which helped make the moment feel important. It was not just the opening of a new ride. It felt like a statement that this coaster matters to the future of the park.
Even though I had seen Flying Fox up close before opening day, being able to walk all the way up to the completed barn-style station and finally see the train in person on operating day hit differently. The station building is much more impressive in person, and the ride looks massive once you are standing right there next to it.
As far as theming, signage, and area details go, it is clear that some finishing touches are still coming together, but there were already several standout elements. One of my favorite additions was the photo-op at the exit, which I think is going to be a huge hit with guests. There were also some nice visual touches inside the station that helped build the story and atmosphere around Flying Fox.
The trains themselves are absolutely beautiful. The bright orange really pops against the green track, and when they sweep past you, they completely sell that crop duster / flying machine feel Kentucky Kingdom was aiming for. In motion, Flying Fox looks fantastic. It has that kind of movement that instantly grabs your attention, and the color combination makes it one of the best-looking coasters in the park.

One of the most interesting things about the day was how the energy evolved. Early on, you could tell everyone was waiting to see how the coaster would perform once testing and rides started. After a few successful runs with media guests, everything loosened up. People started smiling more, relaxing more, and just enjoying the fact that Flying Fox was finally flying. Yes, there were a few bugs during the day, and you could tell maintenance had some frustrating moments, but that is not unusual with a brand-new ride. The good thing was that the issues were handled well, and the excitement never disappeared.

Once the public was finally allowed in and Flying Fox officially opened, the reaction was exactly what you would hope to see. There was a swarm of guests ready to get in line and experience Kentucky Kingdom’s newest coaster. The public energy gave the day a whole second wave of life. The ceremony was important, but seeing guests rush over and hearing the excitement from the crowd made the opening feel real.

For me personally, one of the most meaningful parts of the day was watching Flying Fox go from construction photos and updates to an actual operating coaster full of riders. I have followed this attraction from early development through completion, so seeing it finally in action honestly warmed my heart. Kentucky Kingdom needed this. The park needed a new spark, a new source of excitement, and something fresh for families to rally around. Flying Fox feels like the kind of addition that can help build momentum for years to come.

What Flying Fox adds to Kentucky Kingdom’s lineup is something the park really needed: a new family-style coaster experience. Yes, Kentucky Flyer already gives families a great ride they can enjoy together, but Flying Fox brings a completely different kind of experience to the table. It offers a new sensation, a fresh visual identity, and a ride style that feels both approachable and exciting.

That is one reason I honestly think Flying Fox is suited for just about everyone. Depending on where you sit and how you experience it, it can feel thrilling, smooth, fun, or even relaxing in certain moments. That flexibility is something unique, and it gives families a reason to ride together and compare their experience afterward.

Once the area is fully finished, the scenery is complete, and the landscaping grows in, I really believe families are going to flock to this section of the park. Flying Fox has the potential to become one of those attractions people head toward every single visit, not just because it is new, but because it helps create those family memories worth repeating.

Some of my favorite moments from the day came from simply watching and listening. One especially memorable moment was catching video of the public riders flying through the tunnel for the first time. Hearing the laughter, screams, and excitement in that moment filled me with joy. That was the instant I knew Flying Fox was going to be a hit.

Media Event & Opening Day Recap:

I appreciate the extra details Kentucky Kingdom included for the media event, from the swag and ride video to the themed visuals around the attraction. Those little touches helped make the opening feel more complete and gave the event more personality.

Looking ahead, I think Flying Fox could have a real impact on Kentucky Kingdom’s season. It gives families a strong reason to visit, and hopefully a reason to come back again and again. Whether that leads to repeat visits, season pass purchases, or simply more buzz spreading by word of mouth, this is exactly the kind of attraction that can help generate momentum.

This opening felt like such a big moment for the park because it is one of the most important additions Kentucky Kingdom has made in years. It is their first new coaster since 2019, and it feels like the kind of investment that shows real belief in the future of the park.

At the end of the day, Flying Fox was more than just a media event or another coaster opening. It felt like a strong step forward for Kentucky Kingdom. It brought excitement, energy, and a sense of progress that the park really needed. As someone who loves covering this park and watching it grow, being there for Flying Fox opening day meant a lot to me.

I left feeling excited for more Kentucky Kingdom visits, hopeful for what Flying Fox can mean for the future, and thankful I got to witness such a major moment in the park’s story. If you have not experienced Flying Fox yet, I definitely encourage you to get out to Kentucky Kingdom and earn your wings for yourself.

Why Flying Fox Could Be a Big Moment for Kentucky Kingdom

Flying Fox brings a whole new energy to the front of Kentucky Kingdom. Kentucky Kingdom is getting ready to open Flying Fox on May 28, and in my opinion, this new coaster feels like more than just another ride addition. It feels like a statement about where the park is headed next. Flying Fox may not be the biggest or most extreme coaster in the park, but that is exactly why it matters. It adds something Kentucky Kingdom truly needed: another family-friendly coaster that still looks fun, exciting, and full of energy. As someone who has followed this project from concept art to construction and now to the finished ride, it has been really exciting to watch it all come together. One of the things I like most about Flying Fox is how compact the layout is while still looking full of movement. The ride twists through the area with lots of turns, close interactions with the pathways, and multiple moments where guests can watch the coaster flying overhead. That alone makes it feel live...

Kentucky Kingdom Opening Weekend 2026: A Rough Start, But Signs of a Stronger Season Ahead

Even with the chaos of Opening Day, it still felt good to be back at Kentucky Kingdom. When I first arrived at Kentucky Kingdom on Opening Day, I was honestly shocked by how many people were lined up at the front gate. There were multiple long lines waiting to get inside, and it was immediately clear that attendance was stronger than it had been for 2025’s opening. Even before stepping fully into the park, you could feel the excitement in the crowd. Everyone seemed to be taking in the new entrance plaza updates, the moon rock fountain, the bright green Flying Fox track crossing over pathways, and the general buzz of a new season beginning. Opening Day crowds were noticeably larger than last year, and the excitement at the front gate was easy to feel. Once I got inside, the park had a strong energy. The atmosphere felt upbeat, the music was pumping throughout the midway, and guests seemed genuinely happy to be back. At the same time, it did not take long to notice that operations...

Holiday World Platinum Passholder Preview Day 2026 Recap

Walking through the gates for Platinum Passholder Preview Day felt like the perfect start to the 2026 season. Holiday World’s Platinum Passholder Preview Day was an amazing way to kick off the 2026 season. From the moment I walked up to the entrance gates, I could not wait any longer to get inside. As soon as I entered the park, picked up my Platinum Season Pass magnet, and took in the entrance plaza, I felt like I was in paradise. All the stress I had been carrying around in my mind disappeared. For a few hours, it was all relaxation, fun, and the simple joy of being back at one of my favorite places. Even though it was raining off and on when I arrived, it did not take away from the day at all. If anything, it made finally being back feel even more special. After taking a few photos and videos around the entrance plaza, I headed into St. Nick’s Trading Company to see all of the new merchandise for Holiday World’s 80th Anniversary season, and that was one of the first big highl...
